Am I a canditate for a cosmetic tattoo?
+ DO I HAVE ACTIVE SKIN CONDITIONS?
Active Skin Conditions in the areas to be tattooed may prevent you from getting a cosmetic tattoo. Active skin conditions include: - Rosacea or Sensitive Skin - Excessive oily skin - Sunburn in the last 12 weeks - Blisters or Cold Sores - Dermatitis - Psoriasis - Various types of Acne - Moles If you are unsure if your skin condition will prevent you from getting a cosmetic tattoo, please contact the studio and we can do a skin assessment for you.
+ AM I TAKING ANY MEDICATIONS, SUPPLEMENTS, TOPICAL STEROIDS, OR USING SKINCARE WITH ACTIVE INGREDIENTS?
Medications, Supplements, Topical Steroids and certain Skincare ingredients can impact healed results by thinning the blood and/or causing excessive bleeding as well as thin the skin. Some of these include: Vitamin A / Retinol / Retin-A (or similar products) - It is recommended to stop using for 1 month before your procedure and not to be used for 2 weeks post treatment. Accutane / Isotretinoin (or other acne medications) - It is recommended to stop using for 1 year before your procedure. Steroids / Corticosteroids / Cortisone Cream - It is recommended to stop using for 6 months before your procedure. Hormone / Thyroid Medications - Can cause premature fading and colour changes. You can still have a cosmetic tattoo, just be aware that results can be impacted. Fish oil / Omega oils / Vitamin E - Must be discontinued 7 days before your procedure. Latisse (Lash/Brow growth serum) - Must be stopped 8 weeks before your procedure. We do not recommend that you to stop taking any medications. However, if you have taken any of these within the time frames specified above, your skin will be far too fragile to undergo the procedure and you risk permanently damaging the skin. In these cases, waiting until your skin is ready is the best option. We want you to get the best possible healed result!! Blood Thinning Medications - Can cause excessive bleeding, severe bruising, and possible infection. If you are taking blood thinners of any kind, we kindly ask that you inform us and speak with your health care provider. DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS MEDICATION UNLESS ADVISED BY YOUR MEDICAL PRACTITIONER.

Glaucoma - Eye drops can make the eyelids and follicles hypersensitive causing excessive bleeding, bruising and poor colour retention. Keloid Scarring - Thick scarring resulting from excessive growth of fibrous tissue, unfortunately this means you can not have a cosmetic tattoo. Blood Disorders / Blood Cancers - Can result in faded pigment, changed pigment hue, bleeding and inability to clot as well as severe bruising. Some of these include - Anemia - Haemophilia / Von Willebrand Disease - Blood Clots - Leukaemia / Lymphoma / Meloma Autoimmune Diseases - There is the risk of infection with any skin penetration procedures. Scars - Must be healed for at least one year.
+ DO I HAVE A HEART CONDITION?
Heart Disorders - Any type of cosmetic tattooing or skin penetration procedure is not recommended as it can put you at high risk. Please consult with your GP and/or specialist prior to booking an appointment. We require a clearance letter from your Doctor stating that you have been medically cleared for a skin penetration procedure, this is to avoid any disappointment by being turned away on the day and losing your deposit.
+ HAVE I HAD BOTOX, FILLERS OR CHEMICAL PEELS?
Botox / Fillers / Chemical Peels (or similar) - Where possible have the cosmetic tattoo done first, or you must wait at least 4-6 weeks for the skin to heal and botox/fillers to settle to prevent migration. - Chemical peels can sensitise the skin and it is advised to wait a minimum of 4 weeks.
+ AM I TAKING ANTIBIOTICS?
If you are taking any antibiotics that cause photosensitivity or affect skin in anyway you will need to wait at least 4 weeks after taking your last dose and consult with a medical professional.
+ AM I PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
We do not perform any cosmetic tattooing procedures on pregnant or breastfeeding mothers - there are no exceptions to this.
+ COLD SORES / HERPES SIMPLX VIRUS?
It is very important to let Kristi know if you are prone to or have ever had a cold sore / herpes simplex viral outbreak. There is preventative medication you can take to help reduce the chance of an outbreak (especially for lip tattoo procedures). There are a couple of types of medications you can take, either an over the counter from the pharmacy or you can get a stronger one from your GP if you know you carry the virus. You will need to take this medication prior to and for a few days after your procedure. It is important to remember that cosmetic tattoos DO NOT CAUSE HERPES / COLD SORES. Regardless of whether you have ever had a cold sore or not, you will ONLY suffer an outbreak if you ALREADY carry the virus. Its is possible to carry this virus and not know it. If you are concerned that you MAY be a carrier, you can consult your GP and discuss taking the preventative medication as a precaution.
+ DO I HAVE AN EXISTING COSMETIC TATTOO?
If you already have an existing cosmetic tattoo, BEFORE booking an appointment, please contact Kristi directly. She will either offer you a free in person consultation OR ask you to send through photos of the areas in order to assess whether it is faded enough to work over, or if it needs a colour correction or even removal. By doing this you will save yourself time and possible disappointment.
